Directions: The following passage is an early draft of an essay. Some parts of <strong>the</strong> passage need to be rewritten.<br />

Read <strong>the</strong> passage and select <strong>the</strong> best answer <strong>for</strong> each question that follows. Some questions are about particular<br />

or belay, can use <strong>the</strong> rope to stop my fall.<br />

(9) After I reach <strong>the</strong> summit, sometimes hundreds of<br />

feet above ground, it is time to rappel down. (IO) When<br />

you alight, you can feel as if you are falling, but you<br />

can choose just how quickly you will go. (11) Although<br />

a simple matter <strong>for</strong> my belay or me to slow or stop my<br />
