passages may also be based on <strong>the</strong> relationship between <strong>the</strong> paired passages. Answer <strong>the</strong> questions on <strong>the</strong> basis of<br />

what is stated or implied in <strong>the</strong> passages and in any introductory aterial that may be provided.<br />

Questions 6-7 are based on <strong>the</strong> following passage.<br />

Ever since <strong>the</strong> movie Jaws, sharks have been<br />

feared and reviled as menaces of <strong>the</strong> sea. Can<br />

you picture, <strong>the</strong>n, a shark swimming close to <strong>the</strong><br />

Line surface of <strong>the</strong> ocean, its mouth wide open, look-<br />

(5) ing <strong>for</strong> all <strong>the</strong> world like it's "catching rays"? The<br />

basking shark, named <strong>for</strong> its propensity to bask<br />

(or laze about) in <strong>the</strong> sun, does just that. Don't be<br />

fooled, though; like all sharks, <strong>the</strong> basking shark<br />

can be dangerous to human beings. In fact, <strong>the</strong>re<br />

(10) are reports of harpooned basking sharks attacking<br />

<strong>the</strong> boat in which <strong>the</strong> harpooner is riding. In<br />

addition, <strong>the</strong> basking shark's skin contains dermal<br />

denticles that have seriously wounded divers<br />
