The Opening Ceremony of the School
for the Olympic Youth Volunteers‘
Cultivation and Propriety Took Place
at PKU

Peking University, Beijing, March 9th, 2005: On March 5th, the opening ceremony of
the school for the Olympic Youth Volunteers‘ Cultivation and Propriety was held at
Peking University, participated by over 1000 undergraduate volunteers from more
than 50 universities and colleges in Beijing.
The opening ceremony had invited many measurable figures, including Zhu Shanlu,
the secretary of the municipal committee and the working committee of education in
Beijing; Guan Chenghua, who serves as secretary of the communist youth league in
the municipal committee; as well as Ma Shengjie, who is a full-time member of the
education committee in Beijing, and so on.
At the end of the ceremony, Liu Xuan, the Olympic champion, accepted the letter of
appointment on behalf of all the other teachers in the school. Under her guidance, all
the volunteers took an oath together.
When the opening ceremony concluded, a forum entitled ―Beijing volunteers,
preparing for the Olympics‖ took place in the centennial hall at PKU, and there were
more than 200 youth volunteers entering for it, who came from various universities
and colleges in Beijing.
In the meantime, representatives of those volunteers and about 600 youth volunteers
at PKU took a part in the long-distance running named ―embracing the Olympics with
youth and smile‖.
