Father <strong>of</strong> Chang‘e Speaks at <strong>PKU</strong><br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Oct 19, 2009: on the afternoon <strong>of</strong> Oct, 15, Academician<br />

Ouyang Ziyuan, famed as the ―Father <strong>of</strong> Chang‘e‖, was invited to <strong>PKU</strong> to speak at<br />

the 4th <strong>of</strong> the serial lectures on popular science on campus, the ―Space Exploration<br />

and Chang‘e Project‖, which was chaired by former <strong>University</strong> President Chen Jia‘er.<br />

Starting from looking back at the history <strong>of</strong> space exploration, Academician Ouyang<br />

introduced the development and its significance <strong>of</strong> space exploration to the<br />

audience. Besides that, he also introduced China‘s short-term and long-term goals <strong>of</strong><br />

the lunar and space exploration, explained its scientific goals and key technologies<br />

concerned, reviewed the planning and development <strong>of</strong> China‘s Chang‘e Project, and<br />

illustrated the scientific goal and loaded deployment <strong>of</strong> China‘s first lunar exploration<br />

and the execution and achievements <strong>of</strong> lunar s<strong>of</strong>t landing exploration in the second<br />

and third phases.<br />

His speech, together with his detailed answers to various questions raised by the<br />

audience, helped the students have a better understanding <strong>of</strong> and full confidence in<br />

the lunar exploration project in China, and inspired them to pursue academic<br />

achievements and contribute to the social development <strong>of</strong> the nation.<br />
