Peking University, Beijing, April 19th, 2005: The 2nd session of advanced research
class on Chinese economy for new generation foreign entrepreneurs of Chinese
origin has started on the 18th morning. PKU vice president attended and delivered a
gracious lecture. The fellow attendants of the class-opening ceremony are Ms. Chen
Yujie, director of the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council, vice
director Ms. Li Haifeng, Mr. Tan Tianxing, vice directors of the Dept. of Economy and
Science and Technology. Vice director Xia Hongbo, from PKU Office of International
Relations (OIR) presided over the ceremony. 33 foreign entrepreneurs of Chinese
origin from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei and HK
have taken the class.
Students are supposed to take intense courses training about China‘s administrative
affairs, judicial operation, and economical mechanism and then make a field
investigation for first-hand information. It would be a good way to strength the links
and exchange with overseas foreigners with Chinese origin. Through short period
learning, they can acquire more confidence and determination in foreign trade and
investment to China with an over view of China‘s current reforming and its
development.
The teachers are PKU famous experts, leaders and officials from relevant
departments under the State Council. The program has been greatly supported by
the State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, PKU leaders and welcomed by overseas Chinese.
According to the schedule, students will go to Guangdong province for a study on
23rd, April after the welcome ceremony at PKU on 17th.
According to OIR, it has been taken as a fourth high-level key cooperative program
undertaken by them following the cooperation with Cambridge, Oxford and Stanford.
