Peking University. Beijing. 8th April: The 2nd Financial Innovation Forum of Peking
University has been held on campus recently. Mr. Leo Melamed, ―father of financial
futures‖, the honorary president of Chicago Mercantile Exchange and honorary dean
of China Institute for Financial Derivatives, was invited to make a speech, centering
on the topic ―Analysis of Financial Environment and Legislation on Financial
Derivatives.‖
Professor Zheng Xueyi, dean of the School of Continuing Education, PKU, gave a
welcome speech and the meeting was hosted by Mr. Yuan Xiaowen, director of
China Institute for Financial Derivatives. Mr. Melamed began his speech with the
complexity of financial derivative instruments, and then pointed out some problems
existing in the international financial market such as the misuse of financial derivative
instruments, inefficient financial supervision, lack of regulations and disciplines in the
market, and so on. He continued to illustrate the point that the investor instead of the
financial instruments should be responsible for the loss.
After the speech, participants held an active discussion concerning the legislation on
financial innovation and expressed their opinions on how to protect and develop the
financial industry in China.
The Financial Innovation Forum of Peking University was hosted by China Institute
for Financial Derivatives, co-sponsored by the Great Wall Futures Corporation
Limited and Beijing Lawyers Association, and co-organized by the Training Center of
Peking University and the Oriental Wall Street Education Co., ltd.
