The School of Economics of PKU Held
a Seminar to Devote to the Research of
Economic History

Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 13th, 2005: On the afternoon of October 12, the
Seminar of the Arrangement and Publication of ‗Qing Shilu‘ was held at second
meeting room of PKU Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
As the standout of national School of Economics, the School of Economics of PKU
attaches great importance to the research of economic history. It has offered courses
like ‘Economic History of the world,‘ ‘Economic History of the PRC,‘ ‘Economic
History of ancient times,‘ ‘Economic History of modern times,‘ and ‘Research
Methods in Economic History.‘ The Seminar of the Arrangement and Publication of
‗Qing Shilu‘ serves as one important part of the series of activities to celebrate the
20th anniversary of the foundation of the School of Economics of PKU
The seminar was presided over by Xiao Guoliang, tutor of Ph.D. candidates and
professor of PKU School of Economics, and those honorable participating guests
include leading scholars in the field of Economic History such as: Wu Chengming,
Jing Junjian, and Dong Zikai. Furthermore, the arrival of Chen Zhenhan, who is the
first to study the economic history in ‗Qing Shilu‘, enlivened the atmosphere of the
seminar.
The participant representative, Li Debin, is the second person who is engaged in
studying the materials concerning the economic history in ‗Qing Shilu‘ after Chen
Zhenhan. During the seminar he recalled the difficulties he had met when arranging
materials in the past.
Professor Liu Wei, dean of PKU School of Economics, also criticized the impetuous
tendencies in the research of economic history. At present the average age of the
