Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 22nd, 2005: Students from all over the world
celebrated the second International Cultural Festival at Peking University on Oct.
22nd.
The International Cultural Festival is intended to facilitate cultural communication of
students throughout the world and stimulate the globalization of higher education.
Min Weifang, the Director of the School Affairs Committee pointed out that
―Globalization is playing an important role in higher education‖. The International
Cultural Festival improves mutual understanding and assimilation among different
cultures of different countries.
This festival, organized by the Office of International Relations of Peking University,
is highly valued by the administrators of PKU and foreign friends. Leaders from
Beijing Municipality, Ministry of Education, foreign embassies to China and Peking
University attended the festival. The International Cultural Festival gained popularity
among students as well. Students from Peking University, Tsinghua University,
Renmin University, along with many overseas students, enjoyed the big event.
The president of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the
Ministry of Education of China, Jiang Feng, the secretary-general of China
Scholarship Council, Zhang Xiuqin, the commissary of the Education Committee of
Beijing, Ma Shengjie congratulated the opening of the International Cultural Festival.
The ambassador of Mexico delivered a speech as the representative of the foreign
diplomatic missions. Then an Iran student Meng Na expressed the excitement and
gratitude of overseas students, hoping to share such a happy international festival
with friends of all countries.
Finally, vice-president of PKU Lin Jianhua announced the opening of the second
International Cultural Festival and was greeted by warm applause.
