Peking University, Beijing, Feb 15th, 2004: February 14 came. It meant another
valentine‘s day was celebrated on campus. It had different meanings to different
students, and naturally they celebrated it in different ways.
For these whose girlfriends or boyfriends were also at Peking University, the two
might be together all day long. Before the girls got downstairs, the boys had already
been waiting for them, of course with a bunch of roses in their hands. When the girls
got there, they also took out their gifts prepared before. Then they would have
breakfast. After breakfast, some of them might go out as planned for sightseeing or
shopping, while some of them might walk around the campus. In the afternoon, many
couples would probably go to watch films. Supper would also be enjoyed together,
and most of them would go around the campus to stay together longer.
For these whose girlfriends or boyfriends were also in Beijing, the two might try to get
together. Then films or sightseeing would be the first two choices for them. Of
course, they also exchanged their gifts for each other and had dinners together.
For these whose girlfriends or boyfriends were not in Beijing, admittedly it was a
disappointing day. But telephone helped reduce the distance between them and
convey the care of the others. Possibly some careful boyfriends might order a bundle
of roses delivered to the girlfriends, and of course that would be quite a surprise for
the receivers.
For these who still remain single, it might not be a sad day. They could gather to
entertain themselves, for example sightseeing, watching films or having a dinner with
their friends. They might be proud of their freedom to choose their own ways to
celebrate the day. Though they might feel a little lonely.
By the way, some observant and conscientious people decorated a bench beside
Jingyuan Lawn with rose petals. Some wishes were also left there, saying may all
the loving couples can be together finally and may all the students have a happy
valentine's day.
