This awarding ceremony aims at promoting and strengthening the cooperation in the<br />

field <strong>of</strong> atmospheric chemistry study between the scientists <strong>of</strong> China and Mexico. It‘ll<br />

make contribution to improving the air quality <strong>of</strong> China, especially <strong>of</strong> big cities.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. Mario J. Molina is a world-honored atmospheric chemistry expert and was<br />

awarded Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1995. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Molina successfully made out the<br />

solution to dealing with the severe air pollution <strong>of</strong> Mexico City Metropolitan Area<br />

(MCMA) and is distinguished in the field <strong>of</strong> urban, regional and global atmosphere<br />

problem.<br />

After the awarding ceremony, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Molina delivers an academic speech on the topic<br />

<strong>of</strong> ―Major Environmental Challenges for the 21st Century‖. He points out 5 major<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> the challenge. They are Depletion <strong>of</strong> National Resources, Disposal <strong>of</strong><br />

Solid and Hazardous Waste, Water Pollution, Air Pollution and Global Change in the<br />

Chemical Composition <strong>of</strong> the Atmosphere. With detailed examples, convincing<br />

comparisons and accurate figures, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Molina‘s speech received the audience‘s<br />

warmly applauds.<br />

He, then, answers the questions from the audience. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Molina reveals that he is<br />

interested in Latin literature, philosophy and art, and he believes that before the 2008<br />

Olympic Games, Beijing‘s air quality will get better and better.<br />
