Peking University, Beijing, May 26, 2005: Symphony Orchestra of China National
Opera House will put on a symphony concert ―Classic and Romance‖ at 19:00 on
May 27th at the Centennial Hall of Peking University. This concert aims at ―bringing
elegant art into campus‖. The young and promising director Li Xincao is to be invited
especially so that the concert will be of the same high standard as other social
performances. The repertoire is well-selected, including Viennese master of classic
Mozart‘s work, Symphony No.35 in D major ―Haffner‖, K.385 of, Symphony No.2 in e
minor of the great master of Late-Romanticism Rachmaninov and other pieces of
music with rich connotation but not often performed for their comparative demanding
skills.
Li Xincao is one of the most popular and famous director in contemporary music
circle. Besides his cooperation with domestic orchestras, he has also worked
together with orchestras in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and those abroad, including
Vienna State Opera House, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Munich Symphony
orchestra, Brandenburg Philharmonic orchestra, Vienna Youth Symphony
Orchestra, Hungary State Opera House, French Lille National Symphony Orchestra,
Besancon Opera House, etc. In his series of performances, his exquisite-handled
works impellingly display his accurate grasp of music style and adaptability to a wide
range of music. In particular, he is highly praised for his annotation to German and
Austria classical works of different times as well as Chinese contemporary music.
Rachmaninov‘s Symphony No.2 in e minor is the one of special feature and also the
most popular piece in the world among his three pieces of symphony. The whole
piece of works structurally shows the continuous undulation, using emotions to force
the development of the music. It distinctly displays the special characteristics of
Russian music from the late 19th century to 20th century vividly with Rachmaninov‘s
trait.
