Score a Success in Interview

PKU News, Beijing, April 18, 2004: To help the students to be better performed in
interviews which are the key step in job hunting, lectures sponsored by PKU
Association for Career Development Research on how to succeed in interviews were
given yesterday at PKU by expert Liu Jiali, an experienced human resource
manager, the lecturers also included Zhang Jianglai and Meng Jianing, two excellent
students from the School of Government Management at PKU.
Once being the manager of the Human Resource Departments of Intel and Ericsson
successively, Liu Jiali first introduced the general interview process in mass
recruitment of foreign enterprises and the general qualities required for interviewees.
On the general qualities, Liu emphasized the importance of credibility,
communication ability and team work spirit. She then specifically analyzed the
various kinds of questions raised in interviews and gave some principles on how to
answer them, including simplicity, brevity, honesty and so on.
Following Liu‘s comprehensive instructions, two students gave presentations
according to their own experience. Zhang Jianglai, who got the offer from PWC,
introduced PWC‘s interview process composed of first round and final round in
detail. In addition to the general qualities mentioned by Ms. Liu, Zhang Jianglai
highlighted a good sense of humor and interaction with interviewers. Meng Jianing,
who got the offers from P&G and PWC, gave some tips on the preparation before
interview. To be sufficiently prepared, one not only has to be aware of the
information and recruitment procedure of the target company in advance, but also
has to prepare some questions for the interviewers. According to Meng, practice
helps a lot and the prime principle in interview is to be yourself rather than beyond
yourself.
