The First Employment Fair After the
Spring Festival at PKU Receives Ideal

Peking University, Beijing, March 3rd, 2005: Peking University held ―the Negotiation
Fair on Future Career of the Graduates‘ of 2005‖ on Mar. 3rd. Companies,
government departments and other institutions numbered to about 150 took part in
this negotiation Fair. 8, 000 students from Peking University and other universities
and colleges have made selections in a bi-directional way; they gave a high remark
on it.
The concerned fields in this Employment Fair include: hi-tech industry, finance
institutions, government departments, institutions for scientific research, universities
and colleges, etc. The total number of job posts is over 1, 000. The Employment Fair
was originally planned to open at 8:30 in the morning, but students waiting in front of
the gate had lined a long queue. The entrance to the Fair had been overcrowded and
noisy. So as to insure the safety of all taking part in, the concerned departments of
Peking University adopted thorough safety measures—fire engines were waiting for
orders outside the Fair and graduates seeking for job application all had to pass the
inspection door. The sponsor set limits on the number of students to enter the Fair to
avoid overcrowd with 4, 000 students respectively in the morning and in the
afternoon; furthermore, students from different universities and colleges were
allowed to enter the Fair in different periods of time.
There is hotness of various degrees on the Fair. Students paid the most attention to
the prospect of an industry and the space of future development the other side would
offer. The stalls of Beijing Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce and
China International Enterprises Cooperative Corporation were the most crowded
with students. An applicant from PKU said that it was beyond difficulty even to hand
in a résumé. The employing side raised high and strict requirements for applicants.
For instance, Beijing Shiyi School expressed that their teachers must have an
academic certificate beyond master‘s degree with an extra demand that the major
must be the same. Some corporations employing people with technological abilities
even let the applicants take examinations on the spot. Overall, those who majored in
