Thousands of Cards bring Greetings to
PKUers all over the world

Peking University, Beijing, Dec 11th 2005: These days, thousands of cards are
sending out to PKU schoolfellows all over the world from the old building of Jingchun
Garden, which is the location of PKU Educational Fund Committee. This is the
annual card-delivering activity of PKU Education Fund Committee and PKU Alumni
Association.
The initiator of this activity is Vice President of PKU Prof. Hai Wen, who was the
Assistant President when he suggested searching for the information of PKU
schoolfellows all over the world and sending them new year‘s cards in the name of
the President and the Secretary of PKU, bringing them the greetings from their Alma
Mater.
It is reported that sending cards to the schoolfellows is a tradition of foreign
universities. But in China, it is the first time. A donation book is also sent out with the
card, calling upon the receiver to make contributions to PKU in its effort to become
the first class university in the world.
The speaker of the Fund Committee said that the number of the schoolfellows
registered in the database had exceeded 80 thousand by the end of 2004, of which
over 50 thousand had their exact addresses registered. This year, more than 55
thousand cards will be delivered. Up to now, nearly 4 thousand schoolfellows have
donated money to the fund, with a total amount of 1.24 million yuan.
The delivering work was quite hard and strict. All the cards were hand-made and had
to go through 8 working procedures. To reduce the pressure of the teachers of the
Fund Committee, a group of volunteers from PKU service team participated in the
work. They said that although the work was tiring, they gained a lot from it and
regarded it as a kind of encouragement.
The small card represents the care of PKU and the friendship among the
schoolmates, and it has become the bridge between the new PKUers and the old
ones.
