Peking University, Beijing, March.17th, 2004: Mr. Guo Jianxin, editor of Eastern
Horizon (Dongfang Shikong) of CCTV, gave a lecture named ―in face of the changing
world‖ at PKU this afternoon.
The speech was mainly about how to report international news. Mr. Guo emphasized
two important perspectives in reporting international news. The first is the historical
perspective. He proposed that yesterday shapes today‘s perspective and today will
form that of tomorrow. Thus when reporting international news, journalists should
excavate the cause of the story, the relative cues in the historical perspective in
order to be closest to facts. The other journalists should know is the perspective of
eternity. Journalists are supposed to gain understandings which can be evaluated by
time and space. With the two perspectives, the international news should further
realize its three functions: finding truths, transmitting information and recording
histories.
Mr. Guo said international news will become the mainstream of news report in the
future world, in which different countries connected with each other more closely.
However, international news reports in China still fall behind China‘s development.
As the producer of ―Elites Interview‖ (Gaoduan Fangwen) of Dongfang Shikong, Mr.
Guo makes interview plan for Chinese famous TV host Shui Junyi. They interview
the elites in almost every field such as American former president Clinton. According
to his own experience, Mr. Guo suggest students accumulate as much news
interview experience as they can and broaden their horizon by extensively reading
books in history, literature, philosophy, physiology and so on.
At last, Mr. Guo gave some comments on the terrorist attacks happened in Spain
and Iran. He believed global anti-terrorism union will not be affected by these
attacks.
