Jinju Opera ―Fu Shan Was Called to
Beijing‖ Comes to PKU

Peking University, Beijing, May 23: The Municipal Party Committee of Taiyuan,
Shanxi, who have previously brought plays such as ―Li Qiu‖ and the philharmonic
orchestra production ―Huaxia Culture Taking Root‖ to PKU, announced on May 17th
that for the better understanding of Fu Shan, a renowned poet, calligraphist and
doctor, that they will bring ―Fu Shan Was Called to Beijing‖ to PKU on May 23rd and
24th. Members of the committee announced that all proceeds from the first showing
will be donated to the Sichuan earthquake area.
Fu Shan played an important role in Chinese intellectual and cultural history. He,
Huang Zongxi and Gu Yanwu and others have been named ―six of the greatest
masters of the beginning of the Qing Dynasty‖. His existence and mastering in many
fields changed Chinese history and human history for the better. Head of the Taiyuan
Jinju Opera House said that ―the other great masters of the Qing Dynasty have given
their viewpoint on Fu Shan before on stage, but never like this.‖
This play‘s producer, Li Chunxi said that this is a show especially suitable for
intellectualists: this play is set under the historical background of a feudal dynasty,
while presenting the face of a strong man; it also presented his depth in scholarship.
For the limited amount of space provided by a stage, the play successfully portrayed
Fu Shan‘s inner conflicts.
Main actress Xie Tao has become very popular in the recent years, winning many
prestigious awards in the field. On coming to PKU, she said: ―PKU played an
important role in Chinese history and has an ever-active part in today‘s society. This
play has the significance of combining the life of youths with the San Jin culture, this
is extremely important.‖
To ensure this play‘s effect on exchanging cultures is to the maximum, the producers
of the play will come out and exchange thoughts with the audience on the May 23rd
showing. From the 17th to the 24th, a Fu Shan art exhibit will be held.
