2007 Awarding Ceremony of the
PKU-DTZ Fund Held on Campus

Peking University, Beijing, 12th, November, 2007: On 9th November, the 2007
Awarding Ceremony of DTZ Fund was held at Peking University. The ceremony was
attended by Chen Zuo‘er, the executive vice-director of the Hong Kong and Macau
Affairs Office, Guo Hua, the vice director of the United Front Work Department of the
CPC Central Committee, Zhang Xingang, the former president of the City University
of Hong Kong and honorary professor of PKU, and Liu Bingzhang, the vice-chairman
of Hong Kong Coalition of Professional Services.
Mr. Leung Chun-ying, the president Asian Pacific of DTZ, the standing committee
member of CPPCC, and the convener of the Executive Council of Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region, delivered a closing speech on the theme of ―the
development of Hong Kong in last 25 years.‖
Min Weifang, the Party Secretary of PKU and the Chairman of the Board of Directors
of PKU Education Foundation, also addressed that ―Among the freshmen entering
university, there are about 20 percent who are coming from
financially-disadvantaged families each year. In order to help those students, PKU
has endeavored to raise funds from alumni and friends, in addition to the financial
support from the government and the student loan.‖ He highly appreciated DTZ‘s
generous support to the university and recognized the significance of establishing
this Fund.
With the RMB 5-million-endowment given by Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Mr. Li Zhirong,
Mr. Huang Xixing, Mr. Zhao Jinquan, and Mr. Zhang Guozheng, who received the
PKU Education Contribution Prize from Mr. Min Weifang, the PKU-DTZ Fund is
aimed to provide scholarships and financial aids to both outstanding undergraduates
and graduates from financially-disadvantaged families.
Annually the Fund will cover 30 elite students from financially-disadvantaged
families, each of whom will receive RMB 6,000 each year in the first three years. The
number of beneficiaries and the size of scholarship will be redefined and adjusted to
the changed situation three years later.
