Sino-Japan relationship since the 19th Century. The first critical point was in the
middle of the 19th Century, when China and Japan were in the progress of
modernization. The First Sino-Japanese War (1894-95) reduced China into a
half-feudal half-colonial nation. The second critical point was in the middle of the
20th Century, when China accelerated its development after the 1911 Revolution.
Conflicts occurred within Japan and two prime ministers had been assassinated. The
result of Japan‘s new foreign policies is the second war between China and Japan.
After WWII, Japan had become a strong country both in economy and military affairs
and is now pursuing a position among the politically strong countries. At the same
time, China is facing the best years of development after over 200 years. These facts
lead Sino-Japan relationship into the choice of the third critical point.‖
On the topic of how to carry on the patriotic tradition of Peking University in the new
century, teachers and students had a heated discussion. Guo Ying, Secretary of
Party Committee of School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science said
that this discussion helped us to have a better understanding of Sino-Japan
relationship. She also suggested that we should made deeper researches on how to
develop patriotic educations. To study hard and work earnestly is a basic reflection of
patriotism. Students from School of International Studies expressed their ideas that
we should learn from Japan‘s quick development in a short period, but we should
also make a clear objection to some wrong ideas and actions of Japan concerning
Sino-Japan relationship.
Shen Qianfan, chairman of Youth League Committee, Wang Gan, vice-chairman of
Youth League Committee, Cha Jing, vice-minister of Department of Students‘ Affairs,
Sun Zhanlong, vice director of PKU Publicity Department, and over twenty teachers
and students from different schools and departments participated in this formal
discussion in office building. Delegates all made it clear that it is necessary to have a
better understanding of Japan‘s history, present and national culture and strengthen
the communication between China and Japan.
