Xi Jinping, Vice President of PRC,
Inspects PKU Olympic Stadium

Peking University, Beijing, May. 30th, 2008: Xi Jinping, Member of the Political
Bureau Standing Committee of CPC Central Committee and Vice President of PRC,
visited Peking University (PKU) on the afternoon of May 27th. Xi Jinping came to the
Olympic stadium to inspect the preparation going of the table tennis competitions of
the Olympics and Paralympics on the spot.
He emphasized that the spirit of the meeting held by the political bureau of CPC on
May 26th must be put into effect. A good balance should be achieved between
earthquake relief and preparation for the Olympic Games. Liu Qi, Member of the
Political Bureau of CPCCC and Secretary of Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Liu
Yandong, member of the state commission, Liu Peng, head of the State Physical
Cultural Administration, Guo Jinlong, Mayor of Beijing City and Xu Zhihong,
President of PKU, accompanied him during the inspection.
In the stadium, Xi Jinping listened attentively to the report made by Zhang Yan,
Director of the Stadium and Deputy Secretary of the PKU Party Committee, about
the construction, operation and management of the stadium. Xi was satisfied with the
work done by PKU. During the inspection, Xi warmly encouraged the staff of the
stadium‘s operation team and asked them to keep on looking for insufficiencies in
their work and making improvements in their ability of service and management as to
ensure the success of Olympic Games and Paralympics. He also inquired after the
training and studying condition of Olympic volunteers. Representatives of Olympic
volunteers replied that PKU had made detailed arrangements and postponed the
next semester. They said that all Olympic volunteers of PKU had well prepared
themselves for service in the Olympic Games and Paralympics.
During the inspection, a rehearsal of table tennis games for the Paralympics was
being held in the stadium. Xi Jinping came to Zhang Xiaolin and Liu Guixiang who
won several championships for China in Paralympics and inquired after their training
and competitions. He encouraged players of the table tennis team for Paralympics to
practice in the scientific way and strive for good results in the games.
