Album ―Weiming Lake is An Ocean‖

Peking University, Beijing, Nov.23th, 2005: On Nov.19th, a concert was held in the
Centennial Commemorative Hall for the release of album ―Weiming Lake is An
Ocean‖, a commemorative album for the 20-year history (1985-2005) of PKU‘s
original music. Many PKU schoolmates made a special journey for this concert.
Return of Yataghan: the Spirit of Peking University and the Moral Integrity of
Students
Xu Hanqiu, who is an alumnus in the Dept. of Sociology and now works as a chief
editor for Chinese Heritage, wrote the song Yataghan in 1995, when the Beijing
government carried out a policy that those college students who would graduate in
1995 and stay in Beijing had to pay additional capacity fee. This song became the
song of graduate that year. When Xu talked about this song in the concert, he said
this song represented the moral integrity of students, which shall be held by the PKU
students forever.
Legend of Love: the True Love in a Red Sweater
Love is an ever-lasting topic, which was reflected by several songs in this album, like
A Red Sweater, The Legend of Love and Sugar, which was played by Du Kai, a PKU
student who joint the Dept. of History in 2003. He is also the youngest among the
producers of this album.
Dreaming Back on Campus: Weiming Lake is an Ocean
Xia Wei, the singer of To My Old Friends, said he wanted to deliver this song to his
old friends, to PKU and to the passing times that would not flow back. The last song
was Weiming Lake is an Ocean. It was sung together by those on the stage and the
audiences and filled a surge of excitement in the heart the listeners.
When talking about the original intention of making this album, PKU alumnus Xu
Xiaofeng, who also is the General Manager of Chuangmeng Music Investment Corp.
and the former President of Warner Music China, delivered such a speech: ―The
