Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 7, 2008: In the Fifth World Congress for
Psychotherapy (WCP), which was closed not long ago, the volunteers from
Department of Psychology, Peking University, won the praises from sponsors,
organizers, and representatives of the congress. Because they fully carried forward
the volunteerism spirits, and made outstanding contributions to the congress with
their sincere attitudes and professional work. Their smiles became a highlight in the
congress.
The ―post-Olympics‖ era has already come. The Dept. of Psychology has made
beneficial attempts at the transition of volunteerism work according to the idea of
―mutual promotion of practicing the professional skills and repaying to the public‖.
Let‘s see what they have done while there are different views on how to transform
the Olympics legacy.
Joining WPC: Continuation of Olympics Glory in Academic Fields
The Fifth World Congress for Psychotherapy is the highest level academic
conference in psychotherapy and psychological consultation all over the world, and it
was the first time to be held in Asia. There would be 4500 experts and scholars
attending about 240 academic seminars during this only four-day conference. This
situation brought challenges to the congress volunteers. They must finish a lot of
work in high qualities with such limited preparing time. Additionally, the congress was
held in October which was just the recovery period for the Olympics‘ volunteers. And
it was also the time of a new semester that students were busy with their study. So it
put forward higher requirements on the organization of volunteer service to the Dept.
of Psychology.
