before being transferred to ensure it was ignited indeed. ―In the beginning, I was
waiting for the one before me leisurely‖, said Liang Yan, ―but when the torchbearer
with the flame was in front of me, I felt really nervous that I forgot shaking hands with
him after counting the three seconds. Maybe I‘m too exciting to control myself.‖
Every torchbearer has one and a half minutes to run over the 200 meters. Liang Yan
told us that she intended to slow down in the beginning; but when the moment she
took the torch, she could not help but to run without stop. In the running process, she
could not think too much. ―I just felt the torch was too heave, and if I could change the
hand?‖ said Liang Yan with a big laugh.
In Liang Yan‘s eyes, the completion of the torch relay was just like to finish an
ordinary work, and she felt relief to complete the mission by her efforts. The only
regret was that she was not arranged to take part in the torch relay on May 4th,
which was the 110 anniversary of PKU. ―It was also a meaningful thing to relay
Olympic torch in the first day after the 110 anniversary of PKU.‖ Liang Yan added in
the last.
―I‘m just one of the ordinary people‖
Compared to the bustling metropolis, just like Hong Kong, Wanning was much more
quite. Particularly the torch relay route in Wanning was chosen in the suburbs next to
the remote villages, which gave different quiet scenery. The villagers were very kind,
and they waved to express their friendship to torchbearers when they were passing
by. ―You can feel the pride of local people to welcome the Olympic torch‖ said Liang
Yan. She knew from this that the people‘s hearts to bless the Olympics around the
world were the same, and everyone was doing their best to support the Olympics in
their own ways. ―Attention is the greatest support, so we can say every ordinary
people are participants in the Olympic Games in this sense.‖
―A lot of unknown people are paying for the Olympics quietly, and their spirits are
more touching and impressive‖, by saying this Liang Yan gave us an example about
a security guard on the motorcycle who was riding after the torch from Athens to
China.
Under this mood, Liang Yan insisted on her role of an ordinary people. She said ―In
fact, I always think that I‘m too lucky to become the torchbearer for there are so many
outstanding people around me. I told myself, I‘m just one of the ordinary people, an
ordinary PKU student, and having no achievements or vigorous deeds.‖ On her
application papers for the torchbearer, she wrote down ―I represent the ordinary
Chinese people to run for the torchbearer, for the Olympic Games also is each
person‘s event. I will try to interpret the Olympics spirit by my ordinary identity.‖
Therefore, this became her highlight to be selected.
―I‘ll continue to do meaningful things‖
Liang Yan left Beijing on April 29, and she said nothing to her roommates who knew
her special experience as torchbearer only after reading her blog.
When asked why she kept low key, she said: ―Although the torchbearer is a glorious
title, I‘m just original myself. I‘ll continue to do what I want to do and do the
meaningful things.‖ The meaningful things referred to voluntary service.
Since high school, Liang Yan is enthusiastic in doing volunteer services. In senior
