Eight Teachers Honored by the
CERNET 11th Annual Meeting

Peking University, Beijing, Jan. 4th, 2005: The 11th Annual Academic Meeting of
CERNET was successfully held in the International Meeting Center of Peking
University on December 27th. Nearly 1000 college delegates attended this 4-day
meeting. There were two themes of this meeting: one is to celebrate the 10th
anniversary of the establishment of CERNET, and the other is to open and run
CERNET2.
The meeting summarized the achievements of the past 10 years and awarded the
advanced individuals and groups. There were all-together 8 teachers from PKU who
had made outstanding contributions to the development of CERNET, and were
awarded the title of ―Advanced Individual‖. As one of the sponsors of this meeting,
PKU Computer Center presented to the audience the net running, managing and
researching works of these years. Professor Zhang Pei, author of ―The Technology
of LDAP and Its Applications‖, senior engineer Chen Ping, author of ―The
Technology and Applications of Information Electrical Appliance Based on IPv6‖ and
another three famous personages each gave their speeches in the meeting.
The development of CERNET in the past 10 years has been under great recognition
and concern of the Communist Party and the government. With the efforts of the
whole working team, CERNET has become the important infrastructure of the
informationization of the national education, and the important platform of
establishing a society of learning. It has supported the modern tele-education,
on-line recruitment, digital library and many other applications of education
informationization. It has become the world‘s biggest academic computer network.
CERNET2 is based on IPv6 technology. Some typical net services such as WWW,
FTP and DNS have already been available on CERNET2. Some other IPv6 research
programs were also displayed in the meeting, such as digital high-quality TV and
teleteaching.
