Professor Zeng Yi Honored with the
Sixth Population Prize

Peking University, Beijing, Feb. 27th, 2008: Professor Zeng Yi from PKU China
Center for Economic Research won China Population Prize for ―Science and
Technology Achievements‖. Besides Prof. Zeng, 12 individuals were awarded the
sixth China Population Prize on February 22nd in practical organizing, science &
technology, population economics and other relevant fields concerning population
planning.
The China Population Prize, the top of its kind in China and awarded every three
years, was launched in 1993 by six departments and organizations. By giving honor
to individuals who have made crucial contributions to China‘s population planning
and addressing China‘s population issue, China Population Prize was set up to help
raise public awareness on the population issue, adhere to scientific development
approach, and seek a practical approach to achieve the population goal. China
Population Prize consists of three normal prizes---―Practice Achievement‖, ―Science
and Technology Achievement‖ and ―Honor Award‖, and another three special
prizes---―Special Honor Award‖, ―Honor for International Cooperation‖ and
―Contribution Award‖.
Over 76 individuals have won this prize to date. Winners include officers from both
provincial and community levels, and specialists in the fields of population planning
or science and technology. Each winner demonstrated a special feature of China‘s
population work, whether it be institutional innovation, theory development, or
science and technology advancement. All of these winners help to raise the
prevalent concern for population issue and to balance economic development and
population growth.
