PKU Student Gao Ming Won Title of
"Student of The Year 2007 in China's
Universities"

Peking University, Beijing, Mar. 6th, 2008: on the afternoon of Mar. 3rd, the awarding
ceremony of "Students of The Year 2007 in China‘s Universities" was held in
Beihang University (Beijing). PKU student Gao Ming earned the title of "Students of
The Year 2007 in China‘s Universities" together with other nine nominees, and PKU
was awarded as one of "Top Ten Best Universities for Organizing". Special guests
attending the ceremony included He Junke from Central Committee of Chinese
Communist Youth League, Feng Gang from Ministry of Education, Zhang Jianmin
from Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and Ma Li from People Daily.
On the ceremony, Gao Ming's advanced deeds were recalled through the playing of
a special-made documentary. Gao Ming was born in an ordinary peasant household
in Gansu Province. In 2003 he was enrolled at PKU and had been awarded as
"Triple A Student" twice before he left school for the army in his junior year. His
enlisting has made him PKU‘s first soldier who entered the army within university
studying period. During his years of military service, Gao Ming has performed rather
actively and has won the title of "Outstanding Soldier" and "Outstanding Party
Member"; he has also been selected as local party representative of CCP.
The judging committee commented that, Gao Ming has turned himself successfully
from an enviable PKU student to an ordinary soldier who is willing to devote his life to
guarding frontier areas. To him, responsibility is not an imposed burden but an inner
motion. He has demonstrated a valuable individual sense of worth through his
unique pursuit of life and has set a good model for his peers.
The other nine students who shared the title of "Students of The Year 2007" with
Gao Ming are, Abduwali Tuniyaz from Xinjiang University, Cao Yu from Hunan
Normal University, Deng Zongyuan from Nanjing University of Posts and
Telecommunications, Liang Suhui from Tsinghua University, Qi Shanshan from Sun
Yat-sen University, Xiang Shirong from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yang
Huaibao from Xiang Tan University, Yang Xiaoli from Lishui Vocational and
