Beijing, <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Apr. 18th, 2006: Mr. Zhang Weiqiu, former Chinese<br />

Ambassador to Iraq, was invited by School <strong>of</strong> Foreign Languages (SFL) <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> to deliver a speech about the Iraqi War and Foreign Affairs in Democracy<br />

Building on campus last Friday afternoon.<br />

During this two-hour speech, Mr. Zhang focused on his working experiences in the<br />

embassy, discussed hot issues about Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi War with<br />

audience, and gave advices on how to learn foreign languages and make best use <strong>of</strong><br />

them in working.<br />

Mr. Zhang‘s personal charm and diplomatic demeanor had made a deep impression<br />

on all the students who attended the lecture.<br />

This lecture was one <strong>of</strong> a series <strong>of</strong> lectures given by diplomats invited by SFL with<br />

the aim <strong>of</strong> helping students improve their abilities to learn foreign languages and<br />

make plans for their future careers.<br />
