The Poll of Top Ten Dishes at PKU Is
Going in Heat

Peking University, Beijing, December 18, 2007: The annual poll of Top Ten Dishes at
PKU had begun on Dec 12th, as one of a series of activities named ―Love •
Life‖. The ten candidates competing for this title were the No.1 and No.5 dinning-hall,
Jiayuan, Yiyuan, Nongyuan (including the first and second floor), Campus
restaurant, Noodle restaurant, Yannan restaurant and Songlin restaurant.
All the restaurants and dining-halls above had been fully prepared already, with ads
of the entries in the competition posted at all showy places. Some candidates had
even raised a slogan to catch students‘ attention, which read: ―It‘s a pity not to reach
the Great wall, but a mistake not to vote for the Top Ten Dishes.‖
The entries in the competition were all homely dishes, meeting the taste of people
from both south and north. Some are victorious last year, like Spicy chicken
drumstick meal and steamed stuffed buns with pickled greens. Other entries like acid
soup noodle, Chilli Fish Head and Smocked duck are new dishes. All of them were
sold very well during these days.
Ballot boxes set by the Student Union can be found in every dining-hall, so students
can get the ballots and vote easily. According to a staff in the Student Union, the
selection of Top Ten will help the dining-halls and restaurants improve the
environment and offer a better food and service to students. At the poll booth, one
student said that when being questioned: ―Activities like this make us know about
and supervise our dining-halls much better. It‘s hard to satisfy the taste of all, but the
poll of Top Ten does reflect the opinions from students.‖
