Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 2nd, 2007: Zhu Baotong, director general of
Development Planning Division, Dept. of Logistics Reform, the Ministry of Education,
said when interviewed by Xinhua News Agency, all types of schools at all levels
actively carried out Resource-Saving Campus Construction in recent years, making
great achievement in energy saving and pollution reduction. 260 million primary and
secondary school students are voluntarily practicing saving ideas through these
innovative activities in daily life.
Since 1991, Peking University began to implement the water and electricity
management method, managing the indicators and charging if exceeds the standard.
In 2001, PKU charged full fees of water and electricity. In 2006, PKU put the ―ration
management and charge according to the quantity‖ in force. Thus, the increasing
intensity of management prompted the students to develop a good habit of saving
energy in daily life.
With the theme of energy saving and pollution reduction, PKU students also joined in
summer practice in Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, Gansu, Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu,
Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangdong, Yunnan etc. They went to enterprises, communities,
villages, schools to give lectures, hold discussions and do research. The practice
group to the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan set up a
"green alliance" and trained volunteers together with local universities.
