Peking University, Beijing, Oct. 17th, 2005:
Dear all,
The 29th Olympic Games, which will be held in Beijing in 2008, has become a focus
across China. As the pioneers of the age, we university students should fulfill our
obligations. In order to carry forward the ―Cultural Olympic‖ idea, we ought to actively
concern ourselves with the Olympic, participate in and serve for it, which means we
must improve our manners, so as to demonstrate our aspiring and cultivated spirit;
nevertheless, some students still have a long way to go to achieve this goal.
He who has no manners cannot be respected and a nation which has no culture
cannot be prosperous, as the old Chinese saying goes. The cultural manners are the
priceless spiritual treasure of our Chinese nation. Our predecessors have
constructed a system of oriental culture manners in the history, with the
self-discipline, respect for the teachers and education, modesty at its marrow. This
manner-oriented culture will never be out of time however the world is changing.
Our goal is ―Live in Manners, Grow up in Health.‖ What we should do is to better the
construction of the cultural manners on the campus. Thus our advocacy is as follows:
First, foster good manners.
Second, be thrift and try our best to protect the environment.
Third, be responsible and honest.
Fourth, behave well on the Internet.
What we named is just a few. Let‘s try our best to promote the Chinese traditional
culture by cultivating our own behaviors first!
