Peking University. Beijing. 11th March, 2008: Inspirited by the government work
report given by Premier Wen, members of National Committee of the CPPCC in the
field of education held a delegation meeting in China Resources Hotel, Beijing.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Ministers of Education and members of National
Committee of the CPPCC, Zhang Xinsheng and Zhao Qinping, and was attended by
Mr. Zhou Ji, Minister of Education, Mr. Zhao Dacheng, Deputy Minister of Justice,
and Mr. Liu Shijin, Vice-Director of Development Research Centre of the State
Council.
During the meeting, participants thought highly of the achievement in the field of
higher education in the past 5 years and discussed enthusiastically about the way to
improve the quality of higher education in the country.
Mr. Ke Yang, Executive President of Peking University and member of the National
Committee of CPPCC, commented that maintaining and improving the quality of
higher education was a key priority today, which was to be ensured by combined
efforts of the government and universities. And improving the living and working
conditions of the faculty, especially young faculty members, was critical in
addressing the priority of today.
