As to how to complete one‘s university education successfully, Professor Guan
presented two pieces of advice: 1) finding a good instructor to lead the students to
the right path; 2) reading broad to expand the students‘ scope and experience.
Speaking of the mushrooming double major, he said the students should have the
objective and the rational evaluation of academic performance on their own major
first, and it was inadvisable to follow the herd blindly.
Professor Guan also talked about the provisions about punishing cheating on exam
and plagiarism of thesis. He said PKU would be bound to punish this indecent kind of
act strictly according to the concerned rules and regulations and behave as a model
in the higher education circle. To preclude this kind of problem, many teachers and
inspectors have been dispatched to educate students with the related morality and
discipline. In addition, all the teaching plans should be subject to alternation and
adjustment and coincide with most students‘ need and ability, in order to prevent
inflicting heavy burden on them.
At last, Professor Guan told the students that as the talents of our country, they
should diligently and honestly set and observe their rational education plan,
preparing to shoulder the responsibility of serving our society and people.
