―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖

Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 29th, 2007: On November 27th, the release
conference of ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖, i.e. the workshop of urban
environment assessment was held in Shenzhen Graduate School of PKU in
Shenzhen. ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖, the first urban environment outlook
report prepared within the assessment framework of UN/GEO (Global Environment
Outlook) as the application of assessment procedure of UNEP/GEO in China, was
issued jointly by Shenzhen Graduate School of PKU and UNEP on the conference.
Prof. Lin Jingjun, Dean of PKU Shenzhen Graduate School, attended the conference
and gave a speech, present were UNEP Executive Coordinator for Asia-Pacific
Zhang Jinhua, Vice Director of Shenzhen Environment Protection Agency Chen Wei
Yuan, David Stanners from European Environment Agency, Principle of GEO
Coordination Center in China and Deputy Dean of PKU Shenzhen Graduate School
Luan Shengji, Prof. Huang Yi from School of Environmental Science and
Engineering of PKU, Director of Shenzhen Special Economy Region Research
Center Prof. Zhong Jian from Shenzhen University, Li Shigang from Policy Research
Center of Shenzhen Government, Associate Researcher Yuan Yicai from Shenzhen
Academy of Social Science etc.
The research program of ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖ has been taken charged
of by Prof. Luan Shengji, and served as an important example of applying GEO in
specific cases in the city level operated by UNEP. With 2-year intensive preparation
work, the report has been successfully completed, with a comprehensive analysis of
the change in Shenzhen environment within the past two decades as well as the
underlying driving force, both economic and social. By introducing the concept of
―Integrated Assessment‖, an integrated assessment has been carried out concerning
the current state of environment of Shenzhen and its impact, as well as actions
taken. The report also gave a prospect of the future environment and development in
Shenzhen in different scenarios by employing the method of Systematic Dynamic
Simulation.
The issue of ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖ signified that, as the first city adopting
