<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Nov. 29th, 2007: On November 27th, the release<br />

conference <strong>of</strong> ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖, i.e. the workshop <strong>of</strong> urban<br />

environment assessment was held in Shenzhen Graduate School <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> in<br />

Shenzhen. ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖, the first urban environment outlook<br />

report prepared within the assessment framework <strong>of</strong> UN/GEO (Global Environment<br />

Outlook) as the application <strong>of</strong> assessment procedure <strong>of</strong> UNEP/GEO in China, was<br />

issued jointly by Shenzhen Graduate School <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> and UNEP on the conference.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. Lin Jingjun, Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> Shenzhen Graduate School, attended the conference<br />

and gave a speech, present were UNEP Executive Coordinator for Asia-Pacific<br />

Zhang Jinhua, Vice Director <strong>of</strong> Shenzhen Environment Protection Agency Chen Wei<br />

Yuan, David Stanners from European Environment Agency, Principle <strong>of</strong> GEO<br />

Coordination Center in China and Deputy Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> Shenzhen Graduate School<br />

Luan Shengji, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Huang Yi from School <strong>of</strong> Environmental Science and<br />

Engineering <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong>, Director <strong>of</strong> Shenzhen Special Economy Region Research<br />

Center Pr<strong>of</strong>. Zhong Jian from Shenzhen <strong>University</strong>, Li Shigang from Policy Research<br />

Center <strong>of</strong> Shenzhen Government, Associate Researcher Yuan Yicai from Shenzhen<br />

Academy <strong>of</strong> Social Science etc.<br />

The research program <strong>of</strong> ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖ has been taken charged<br />

<strong>of</strong> by Pr<strong>of</strong>. Luan Shengji, and served as an important example <strong>of</strong> applying GEO in<br />

specific cases in the city level operated by UNEP. With 2-year intensive preparation<br />

work, the report has been successfully completed, with a comprehensive analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

the change in Shenzhen environment within the past two decades as well as the<br />

underlying driving force, both economic and social. By introducing the concept <strong>of</strong><br />

―Integrated Assessment‖, an integrated assessment has been carried out concerning<br />

the current state <strong>of</strong> environment <strong>of</strong> Shenzhen and its impact, as well as actions<br />

taken. The report also gave a prospect <strong>of</strong> the future environment and development in<br />

Shenzhen in different scenarios by employing the method <strong>of</strong> Systematic Dynamic<br />

Simulation.<br />

The issue <strong>of</strong> ―Shenzhen Environment Outlook‖ signified that, as the first city adopting<br />
