<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Nov. 21th, 2007: <strong>PKU</strong> shar<strong>PKU</strong>ngfu team -- <strong>Peking</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> Robot Team, organized by Intelligent control Laboratory <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> College <strong>of</strong><br />

Engineering, participated in the 2007 China Robot Competition and RoboCup China<br />

Open robot contest, and won the championship in three underwater robot games.<br />

Underwater robot contest, set by Robot Competition Committee <strong>of</strong> Chinese<br />

Automation Association, consists <strong>of</strong> 2 to 2 and 3 to 3 water polo competitions, and<br />

technology challenge contest. The aim <strong>of</strong> the competition is to build a platform to<br />

facilitate the academic exchanges and cooperation <strong>of</strong> domestic and international<br />

underwater robot researchers, and to promote the development and progress <strong>of</strong><br />

related technology. Compared with other games, underwater robot competitions<br />

have many advantages, for example, the robots have smaller size and easier to<br />

carry; the venues have modest size and easier to implement; the competitions have<br />

highly technical challenge, and will help promote technological progress; also, they<br />

are warmly welcomed by the audience. Underwater robot competition is marked with<br />

biomimetic technology and intelligent collaboration. It not only is a driving force <strong>of</strong><br />

scientific and technological progress but also plays an crucial role in the work <strong>of</strong><br />

popularization <strong>of</strong> science and technology.<br />

From October 26th to 28th, 2007, "Yin-Quan Cup" China Robot Competition and<br />

RoboCup China Open were held in Jinan City <strong>University</strong> Science Park. A total <strong>of</strong> 413<br />

teams and more than 1,200 applications participated in the competition, among<br />

which there were 391 Chinese teams, some <strong>of</strong> which were form more than 100<br />

colleges and universities including <strong>PKU</strong>. The robot competitions consisted <strong>of</strong> 9<br />

categories and 34 competition items, including RoboCup robot games, FIRA Robot<br />

games, air robot games, underwater robot games, dancing robot games and biped<br />

robot walker games. Compared with previous competitions, this competition had<br />

most completed and largest quantity <strong>of</strong> categories.<br />

It is said that the 2008 RoboCup Robot World Cup will be held in Suzhou, China,<br />
