Structural Reforms Forum Held at
PKU

Peking University, Beijing, December 17th, 2004: ―PKU Guanghua Health Economy
and Management 2004 Senior Forum‖ was held at Guanghua School of
Management (GSM) of Peking University on 8th of this month. The Department of
Health Economics and Management of GSM and China Medicine Economics
Research Center jointly sponsored this forum.
Under the theme of ―China Macro-economy and Hospital Structural Reforms‖, this
forum probed into the sticking point of the hospital structural problems of China and
the way out for hospital structural reforms in terms of Macro-economy.
Professor Liu Guo‘en from the Department of Health Economics and Management of
GSM delivered a speech on ―Macro-economy and Hospital Structural Reforms: The
Function of Market and Government‖, systematically expounded the relationship
between macro-economy system and hospital structural reforms, the
macro-orientation and function of government and market in hospital structural
reforms, etc.
Liu Xinming, head of the Policy, Laws and Regulations Department of the Ministry of
Health PRC, expatiated from the angle of government the trend of China medical
treatment system reforms, the classification of medical treatment institutions and
several issues about the policy of medical treatment reforms.
Mao Yu, president of Beijing Ditan Hospital, talked about the challenges and
problems we were confronted with the reforms of China‘s public health system.
Top deputy of World Health Organization (China) Dr. Henk Bekedam introduced the
experience of the medical treatment system worldwide, providing us with some
modes that could be used for reference in the medical treatment system reforms of
our country.
