The most fascinating of CAPU is its annual cycling expedition in the summer holiday.
Expedition in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the success of Long March in
1996 (from Beijing to Yan‘an). Expedition in celebration of the return of Hong Kong in
1997(from Beijing to Shenzhen). Expedition along Silk Road in 1998(Xi‘an to
Dunhuang). Expedition in celebration of the return of Macao in 1999(from Chongqing
to Macao). Environment investigations along the middle and lower reaches of the
Yangtze River in 2000 (from Chongqing to Shanghai). Expedition to the west of Tibet
in 2001 (from Beijing to Xining, from Germo to Lhasa to the foot of Mt.
Qomolangma). ―Sunshine the Southwest of China‖ expedition in 2002 (Chengdu,
Chongqing, from Pan Zhihua to Dali). ―Healthy life, new life‖ expedition to the
Northeast in 2003(from Shenyang to Mohe). CAPU has covered 26 thousand
kilometers in the eight expeditions, attracted a great deal of publicity along the road,
and spread the cycling culture to where they visited.
It differs from most of PKU students‘ societies in its well-organized framework. CAPU
consists of the council, which negotiates and supervises, and the collegium, which
decides and performs. The six branches of the collegium are under the leadership of
its two Presidents: General Office, Department of Social Surveys, Department of Art
and Sport, Department of Liaison, Department of Propaganda, Department of
Academic. The performance of each and the cooperation of all contribute to the
efficient CAPU teamwork.
In the eyes of CAPU members, cycling is a culture as well as a sport. Bicycle is a tool
for hitting the road and reading the society. Its members come to realize how to face
the deep ends and survive the fierce competitions. CAPU is more like a home than
an association, in which sincere friendship is born, optimism is encouraged,
enterprise and faith are aroused. ―Understanding the society, embracing the nature,
challenging the limit and transcending oneself.‖ is the logo and the forever pursuit of
CAPU.
