PKU Establishes Digital China
Academy

Peking University, Beijing, December 18, 2004: PKU ―Digital China Academy‖ was
formally established on Dec. 18, an achievement in the fields of strategy research,
key technology research and exploitation, advanced talents training, academic
cooperation and international communication to promote the digitization process.
PKU President Xu Zhihong said that as a comprehensive university with the most
necessary facilities and the most frequent international communication, PKU will
make full use of its resources and bring into play its advantages, according to the
request of the development of digital China program, to fasten the amalgamation of
traditional geographic science and modern information technology, promote the
development of digital China program and the operation of the subject of establishing
PKU as a world-class university.
According to the introduction of Tong Qinxi, the dean of digital China Academe, as
the first research and teaching institution of the development of digitization and the
amalgamation of strategy research, technology exploitation and the appliance of
subject, digital China academe has a integrate scientific system of multi studies such
as economy, law, public administration.
The academe includes a council and a science committee. The council is the
decision-making organization with members from the related departments of Ministry
of Information Industry, Peking University and local government and companies. The
science committee is the scientific leading organization of the academe, mainly
responsible for discussing and deciding the research directions.
