<strong>PKU</strong> Holds 2008 Freshman Concert<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Sept. 25th, 2008: On the evening <strong>of</strong> Sept. 21st, 2008<br />

Freshman Concert <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> was held at the Centennial Commemorative<br />

Hall. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Wu Zhipan, Executive Vice Secretary <strong>of</strong> CPC <strong>PKU</strong> Committee, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Lin<br />

Jianhua, Executive Vice President <strong>of</strong> the university, Chi Huisheng, Vice Director <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>University</strong> Council, Ma Huaxiang, Director <strong>of</strong> the Office <strong>of</strong> Students‘ Affairs, Han<br />

Liu, secretary <strong>of</strong> the university‘s League Committee, and Zha Jin, Vice Director <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Office <strong>of</strong> Students‘ Affairs, attended the concert. Over 2000 first-year students from<br />

all departments and schools <strong>of</strong> the university enjoyed this wonderful concert.<br />

The top pr<strong>of</strong>essional symphony orchestra in China -- China National Symphony<br />

Orchestra was invited to the concert and the renowned conductor, Mr. Chen<br />

Xieyang, exhibited his marvelous art. The concert consisted <strong>of</strong> six parts. The first<br />

piece, No.1 Symphony, was followed by the well-known Waltzes ―Unter donner<br />

undblitz polka‖ and ―Chit-chat fast polka‖ by Johann Strauss. Then Jules Massenet‘s<br />

―Meditation‖ and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky‘s No.4 symphony were performed. The<br />

audience were inspired by these wonderful pieces and cheered warmly for the great<br />

performance. In the later part, the audience enjoyed Beethoven‘s No.5 Symphony<br />

(Fate). Students were deeply absorbed by the nice melody and performance.<br />

After the performance, students from different schools and departments said that<br />

they benefitted a lot from the concert. Fu Yangpeng, freshman <strong>of</strong> Guanghua School<br />

<strong>of</strong> Management said that it was a great opportunity to enjoy such high quality music<br />

and taste the artistic atmosphere <strong>of</strong> this university. The freshman concert has<br />

become an essential part <strong>of</strong> the orientation activities and it is a successful practice <strong>of</strong><br />

―Refined Art in Campus‖ campaign.<br />
