The 20th "JingHua Cup" Chess and<br />

Bridge Game Held at <strong>PKU</strong><br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, April 5th, 2006: The 20th "Jinghua Cup" chess and bridge<br />

game between <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> and Tsinghua <strong>University</strong> was held at Chaitai<br />

International Center on the morning <strong>of</strong> April 1st. THU team won the cup with a score<br />

<strong>of</strong> 12 to 10.<br />

A total <strong>of</strong> 22 teams attended the game. Well-known chess players including world<br />

champion Xu Yihua, Xu Ying, Huang Qian and Xu Yuanyuan were also involved,<br />

whose appearance attract many chess amateurs.<br />

After a day <strong>of</strong> competitions, <strong>PKU</strong> Chinese chess undergraduate and graduate teams,<br />

I-go undergraduate team, bridge undergraduate team and women mixed team won<br />

their opposites; however, all <strong>PKU</strong> faculty teams failed their game. As a result, <strong>PKU</strong><br />

Team lost the game to THU at 10-12 and failed to defend previous championship.<br />

Qian Zhangzhi, Vice president <strong>of</strong> THU made the closing speech, while Yue Sulan,<br />

vice president <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> and Chen Xu, Vice secretary <strong>of</strong> CPC THU committee awarded<br />

the cup to THU chess team.<br />

A number <strong>of</strong> guests also attended the opening ceremony <strong>of</strong> the game, including<br />

authorities from both Chinese Weiqi Society, Chinese Chess Society and <strong>Peking</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

Starting in 1987, the annual ―JingHua Cup‖ has developed into a traditional event<br />

between <strong>PKU</strong> and THU. Of all the 20 games, <strong>PKU</strong> held 11-9 superiority over THU at<br />

present.<br />
