GE Foundation Scholarship in
2002-2003 Was Awarded

Peking University, Beijing, Mar.27th, 2004: The awarding ceremony of GE (General
Electric Company) Foundation Scholarship was held in the second assembly room of
Yingjie Communication Center, on the afternoon of March 26th. Assistant President
Hai Wen, Associate Dean of Student Affairs Department Sun Li, Associate
Secretary-general of Education Foundation of PKU Deng Ya, President of GE in
China Chen Zhi and Director of HR of GE in China Hu Zhigang attended the
ceremony. Associate Secretary-general of Education Foundation of PKU Deng Ya
hosted the ceremony.
40 students in total have received GE Foundation Scholarship in the academic year
of 2002-2003, including 8 students from HSC (Health Science Center), 14 students
from CCME (College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering), 14 students from
GSM (Guanghua School of Management), 4 students from EECS (Electronic
Engineering and Computer Science). Associate Dean of Student Affairs Department
Sun Li introduced the evaluation process of GE Foundation Scholarship at PKU and
then read the list of winners. Yang Zheng, a junior student from CCME, delivered a
speech as a representative of all the winners.
President of GE in China Chen Zhi gave an ebullient speech in the ceremony to
congratulate the students and put forward expectations to them as well. He also
discussed with the students about the design of future career, combined with his own
experience of grown up and as a professional manager.
GE Foundation Scholarship was set up in 1995 by GE Foundation, which donates
20,000 US dollars every year and rewards the upperclassmen of undergraduates,
masters and doctors from CCME, EECS, GSM and HSC. The premium now is the
equivalent RMB of 500 US dollars each year per student. By 2003, students of PKU
receiving GE Foundation Scholarship had reached 314 person-times and the total
amount of the premium had reached 50225 US dollars. Moreover, GE Foundation
also offers premium to teachers in order to support the teaching and research of
