Peking University, Beijing, March 15, 2008: Alumni visited the campus of Peking
University after attending the Two Sessions on March 13, 2008, reliving their college
lives with relish, and discussed the peaceful development of their Alma Mater and
motherland.
On mentioning equality in education, Doctor Chen Zhonglin, representative of NPC
and Dean of the Law School of Southwest University of Political Science and Law,
said that each time he attended the Two Sessions, he would propose to step up the
investment in education. Our education investment at present is structured into 10%
from the state government and 90% from fiscal budget of local government, which
means that local government emphasizes more on education than the state
government. However, the revenues of local government and especially the
impoverished area are comparatively low, which gives rise to inequality in education.
On the hot issue of ―School Choice Craze‖, Doctor Chen pointed out that it was the
unbalanced teaching resources that narrowed the choices of parents. To improve the
payment and the teaching environment for teachers in the remote and less
developed areas would reverse the situation of unduly aggregation of teaching
resources in some areas. In that way, the problem of ―School Choice Craze‖ can be
solved.
Among all the education knot, Zhang Jinsuo, representative of NPC also Procurator
General of the People‘s Procuratorate of Jilin province, said that he was more
concerned of the adult education in view of the re-education problem of law workers.
The aging of law workers is getting worse. The newly grads are loaded with rich
knowledge but lack severely in practical experience, which aggravates the aging
problem.
