tea culture has special meaning to the spread of traditional Chinese culture. The
well-known tea culture expert Lin Zhi said that the broad and profound Chinese tea
culture is an embodiment of the values and aesthetic standards of Confucianism,
Buddhism and Taoism.
For the theme ―the culture of boccaro‖, Mr. Qian Shaowu talked about his aesthetical
understanding about the beauty of boccaro. Boccaro symbolizes the supreme quality
of Chinese art. It is gentle and quiet in outward appearance while solid inside which
expresses the Chinese art spirit of ―softness in solidness, and solidness in softness‖.
For the third theme, the dean of School of Life Sciences Rao Yi, Professor Zhang
Yiwu from Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Kong Qingdong and
famous director Tang Jili talked about their understanding of art.
Prof. Rao Yi shared his interpretation of the relationship among nerve, molecule, art
and life. Prof. Zhang Yiwu reviewed the origin and development of the tea culture,
and valued the tea and boccaro culture as the essence of traditional Chinese culture
and spiritual home to poets and scholars. ―It is a spiritual carrier‖ he said. Prof. Kong
Qingdong interpreted tea as a carrier, an attitude towards life. He also emphasized
that PKU should attach great importance to the humanistic tradition.
Hundreds of teapots were specifically designed and made for this activity and each
teapot was given a unique number to be presented to attendants of the party. Among
them, the 108th boccaro was to be collected by Professor Ji Xianlin as an emblem of
the wish for his health and longevity. Several pieces of boccaro made in the Qing
Dynasty were donated by Mr. Wang Du from Taiwu and elicited great attention ay the
party.
