tea culture has special meaning to the spread <strong>of</strong> traditional Chinese culture. The<br />

well-known tea culture expert Lin Zhi said that the broad and pr<strong>of</strong>ound Chinese tea<br />

culture is an embodiment <strong>of</strong> the values and aesthetic standards <strong>of</strong> Confucianism,<br />

Buddhism and Taoism.<br />

For the theme ―the culture <strong>of</strong> boccaro‖, Mr. Qian Shaowu talked about his aesthetical<br />

understanding about the beauty <strong>of</strong> boccaro. Boccaro symbolizes the supreme quality<br />

<strong>of</strong> Chinese art. It is gentle and quiet in outward appearance while solid inside which<br />

expresses the Chinese art spirit <strong>of</strong> ―s<strong>of</strong>tness in solidness, and solidness in s<strong>of</strong>tness‖.<br />

For the third theme, the dean <strong>of</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Life Sciences Rao Yi, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Zhang<br />

Yiwu from Department <strong>of</strong> Chinese Language and Literature, Kong Qingdong and<br />

famous director Tang Jili talked about their understanding <strong>of</strong> art.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. Rao Yi shared his interpretation <strong>of</strong> the relationship among nerve, molecule, art<br />

and life. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Zhang Yiwu reviewed the origin and development <strong>of</strong> the tea culture,<br />

and valued the tea and boccaro culture as the essence <strong>of</strong> traditional Chinese culture<br />

and spiritual home to poets and scholars. ―It is a spiritual carrier‖ he said. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Kong<br />

Qingdong interpreted tea as a carrier, an attitude towards life. He also emphasized<br />

that <strong>PKU</strong> should attach great importance to the humanistic tradition.<br />

Hundreds <strong>of</strong> teapots were specifically designed and made for this activity and each<br />

teapot was given a unique number to be presented to attendants <strong>of</strong> the party. Among<br />

them, the 108th boccaro was to be collected by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ji Xianlin as an emblem <strong>of</strong><br />

the wish for his health and longevity. Several pieces <strong>of</strong> boccaro made in the Qing<br />

Dynasty were donated by Mr. Wang Du from Taiwu and elicited great attention ay the<br />

party.<br />
