14 Works top the 13th ―Challenge
Cup‖

Peking University, Beijing, May 18th, 2005: 14 pieces of excellent works obtains the
first prize after the assessment in the May 4th Scientific Awards for Youth contest
were over on May 14.
176 pieces of works were admitted from the 29 schools or departments, and 84 of
which entered into the second round examination after the first selection. 16 pieces
were listed on the special awards. In March, the scientific and technological project
office of PKU ―challenge cup" invited above PKU 80 judges from various fields to
evaluate strictly on these 84 works, and finally confirmed 22 works that are qualified
to be finals. 14 works stand out in the comprehensive marks.
The ask-answer process covered two parts, namely, formal statement and
question-answer. The judges questioned carefully contestants from the aspects such
as topic selection, research methods, and research conclusion, and assessed the
works from the content of the thesis including that of science, advance, realistic
meaning etc. and authors‘ performance including their logic, integrality, flexibility,
etc.). After all the assessing process, expert panel members will discuss and grade
according to hundred-mark system, thus draw the final result. The works, by Yang
Ying, an undergraduate from the school of Biology Science, named Plastic Changes
of CGRP8-37-induced Antinociceptio, was regarded as the most fully-prepared and
the most presented one; the only manual works, by Sun Jinan, from the school of
Information Science, named stock forecasting system, quantitative analysis of how
Internet assess influence stock fluctuation, deeply impressed experts with its
originality and practical meaning.
"Challenge cup‖ scientific and technological project office will decide who will be the
winners of special awards, the winners of the second prize and the third, covering
20% and 30% of participation amount, and group awards list according to the real
situation.
