Peking University, Beijing, Mar.19th, 2004: Oxford Day scheduled on 22nd to 23rd of
March at Peking University attracts people's attention after Ecole Normale
Supérieure Day. Since Moscow University Day of 2001, Peking University has
successfully held Cambridge Day, Leiden Day, Yale Day and Ecole Normale
Supérieure Day. This year PKU will hold Paris Tech Day, Free Berlin Day, Stanford
Day, Humboldt Day and Melbourne Day in the coming days.
University Day has become the brand-new form of PKU welcoming the visits of
world-famous universities. At present, the calendar scheduled for the visits are
generally as follows: the speech given by the president of visiting university in the
morning, the dissertation of the well-known scholars coming with the visiting group
and the learned exchange with PKU in the afternoon. During the visiting days, PKU
would give an all-sided introduction to the teachers and students of the development
history, the characteristics and the research fruits of the visiting university, and would
also negotiate with the visitors about the co-operation programs on education and
study.
Li Yansong, the head of the Office of International Relations of PKU says,
understanding each other is the base of co-operation. He considers that the
advantage of the form of University Day lies in the rich information about the
successful experience of these universities, which creates the good conditions for
the internationalization of the teaching and science research.
Since the implementation of 985 Project, PKU has quickened its step of constructing
the world first class university and strengthened the exchange and collaboration with
the world famous universities, such as Moscow University, Tokyo University,
Harvard University, Yale University, Standford University, etc. For instance, Yale
University launched Summer school; PKU and Moscow University built up joint
