the lack of any concrete epigraphic link between veterans and local
governing magistrates has already been mentioned, which makes our study
difficult. Despite this, it has been proposed that the veterans and their
descendents, especially those who received roman citizenship and roman
names under the Flavii, joined the government 17 , since some Flavii are
to be found in the inscriptions of the second and third centuries holding
high and responsible office in philippopolis. 18 We could suggest that
