Verslag - NG Kerk in Oos-Kaapland

1. The GSC declares unambiguously its rejection of the inclusion of the Confession of Belhar as an optional
confession. It rejects any notion of dealing with this confession in a context of doctrinal liberty.
2. We prayerfully request the DRC to urgently reconsider this part of her decision with the motivation given,
because such treatment of the confessional basis for a united church is not helpful in the process of reuniting
our divided family.
3. We request that the Confession of Belhar be treated no less and no more than the three formulas for
unity which guide and guard our faith, life and work as members of the body of Christ.
4. The GSC recognizes the principle of freedom of conscience and proposes that those parties unwilling to
underwrite the confession be pastorally accompanied and encouraged to accept it and not be excluded
from the new church.
5. The GSC rejects the notion of an urgent unity based on unity structures that compromise any clear
resolution of the confessional basis of a united church.
6. The GSC requests all church structures to evaluate the structures of co-operation and ensure that they
express the message of the Confession of Belhar regarding the true unity, reconciliation with integrity and
compassionate justice that empowers the poor.
7. The GSC decides that in all negotiations with the DRC on church unity, the agenda of negotiations
should be based on the Confession of Belhar, its practical content, emotions and fears that exist, i.e. the
historical baggage, the economic aspects, i.e. restitution and other factors that go with it.
8. The GSC appoints a task team to provide guidelines to the URCSA structures on the faith and conviction
of the URCSA, as expressed in the Confession of Belhar as it impacts on the processes mentioned above.
The task team provides these guidelines to the Executive Committee who will provide them to the church.
The Executive Committee monitors and guides the reunification process with report to the General
Synodical Commission or General Synod.
9. We pray that Christ may dwell in our hearts, that his Spirit will strengthen us for the re-unification task,
that we may be rooted and grounded in God s love and that we will be filled with the fullness of God, for the
glory of God (refer Ephesians 3: 14 21).
2.2.3 Die Moderamen het in Februarie 2005 weer n ontmoeting met die volle ASK van die VGKSA
aangevra. Dit kon nie in 2005 realiseer nie, maar wel drie baie goeie en positiewe gesprekke tussen die
Moderature van die twee kerke.
2.2.4 Gedurende 2005 het die Moderamen n skriftelike antwoord van die Moderatuur van die VGKSA
ontvang oor ons sinodebesluit. Dit is opgestel deur ds James Buys:
KOMMENTAAR OP DIE BESLUITE VAN DIE
NGK ALGEMENE SINODE 2004 IVM KERKEENHEID
1. INLEIDING
Die onderstaande poog om kortliks kommentaar te lewer op die besluite van die NGK Algemene Sinode
2004 en terselfdertyd voorstelle te bedien oor die pad vorentoe.
Die kommentaar en voorstelle is in hoofsaak afhanklik van besluite van die Dagbestuur en ASK van die
VGKSA.
2. BESLUITE VAN DIE DAGBESTUUR
Die volgende besluit van die Dagbestuur wat ook met die ASK van die NGK gedeel is, verteenwoordig
kommentaar op die besluite van die Konvent van die Kaapse Sinodes van die NGK en VGKSA.
Die relevante deel van die hierdie besluite slaan in hoofsaak op die die houding van die VGKSA oor die
plek van die Belydenis van Belhar in n verenigde kerk. Die volgende is die uittreksel uit die tersake
besluit:
Die Dagbestuur het kennis geneem en indringend aandag geskenk aan die besluite van die Konvent van
Eenheid van die Kaapse Sinodes. Die Dagbestuur is verheug oor die verloop van die Konvent.
Die Dagbestuur se respons op die voorstelle van die Konvent is gegrond op die besluite van die Algemene
Sinode van 1998 en 2002 asook die besluite van ons ASK.
a. Besluite in verband met Belydenis van Belhar
Die Dagbestuur verwelkom die besluit en deel graag ons mening oor die onderskeie paragrawe.
In geheel gesien verteenwoordig die besluit noemenswaardige vordering op pad na eenheid. Ons besef dat
hierdie besluit as voorstel aan die Algemene Sinode van die NGK in Oktober voorgehou moet word. Ons
glo dat die aanvaarding van hierdie voorstel as beginsel vir die belydenisgrondslag vir n eenheidskerk n
positiewe sein sal gee. Hiermee saam sal dit ruimte skep vir n nuwe proses van toetsing van die Belydenis
van Belhar binne die NGK.
