4.2.1 There is a need to create a new way ahead: the current members of the Federal Council and the<br />

other members of the family that are not members of the Federal Council constitute a new body that will<br />

reflect the new realities and needs of the family.<br />

4.2.2 The new body will co-operate with/ form part of / associate with other regional bodies.<br />

4.2.3 The members present at Utrecht appo<strong>in</strong>ted an Interim Committee of 5 members: Dr Edw<strong>in</strong> Zulu<br />

(Reformed Church <strong>in</strong> Zambia) (Chairperson), Rev Stoneham Sande (Church of Central Africa Presbyterian,<br />

Nkhoma Synod), Rev Jonathan Kangogo (Reformed Church of East Africa), Rev Mochudi Lebone (Dutch<br />

Reformed Church <strong>in</strong> Africa) and Dr Kobus Gerber (Dutch Reformed Church) (Secretary).<br />

4.2.4 The Interim Committee will<br />

4.2.4.1 Look at possible options and models for a new way ahead<br />

4.2.4.2 Look at the possibilities of the current constitution of the Federal Council, and write a new<br />

constitution to serve the purpose of a new dispensation<br />

4.2.4.3 Report their work to the members of the Federal Council and the other members of the family. This<br />

will <strong>in</strong>clude the history of the Federal Council, the background and contents of the meet<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> Utrecht, and<br />

the proposed new constitution.<br />

4.2.4.4 Contact the Unit<strong>in</strong>g Reformed Church <strong>in</strong> Southern Africa and <strong>in</strong>vite them to enter <strong>in</strong>to discussions<br />

with the Interim Committee with regard to this matter. The Interim Committee must cont<strong>in</strong>iously <strong>in</strong>volve<br />

them.<br />

4.2.5 The Report of the Interim Committee must be ready towards the end of January 2006. Members of<br />

the family will be asked to react with<strong>in</strong> a specific timeframe.<br />

4.2.6 The Interim Committee will prepare a comprehensive f<strong>in</strong>al report to all the churches. This will be<br />

ready at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of 2007.<br />

4.2.7 The Interim Committee will call a meet<strong>in</strong>g of the Federal Council. At this meet<strong>in</strong>g the Federal Council<br />

will formally disband accord<strong>in</strong>g to Article 8 of the Constitution of the Federal Council. This meet<strong>in</strong>g will also<br />

be the first meet<strong>in</strong>g of the envisaged new body.<br />

3.2.4.4 As gevolg van die situasie van die voorsitter van die Interimkomitee kon daar, behalwe bilaterale<br />

gesprek, eers n vergader<strong>in</strong>g van die Interimkomitee <strong>in</strong> Maart 2007 plaasv<strong>in</strong>d en n werkw<strong>in</strong>kel vir die<br />

opdrag vir Mei 2007 <strong>in</strong> Malawi skeduleer word. Die uitkoms hiervan sal as laatstuk by die Algemene S<strong>in</strong>ode<br />

dien.<br />

3.2.4.5 Die Interimkomitee het die hele saak ook vir kommentaar na die vennote van die<br />

kerkherenig<strong>in</strong>gsgesprek <strong>in</strong> Suid-Afrika verwys.<br />

3.2.4.6 AANBEVELI<strong>NG</strong>: MOONTLIKE LIGGAAM VIR KERKE VAN DIE BREËR <strong>NG</strong> KERKFAMILIE<br />

Die Algemene S<strong>in</strong>ode ondersteun die skep van n moontlike liggaam vir die kerke van die breër <strong>NG</strong><br />

<strong>Kerk</strong>familie met die uitdruklike verstandhoud<strong>in</strong>g dat dit n liggaam is wat (a) nie <strong>in</strong> die plek van die<br />

herenig<strong>in</strong>gsproses <strong>in</strong> Suid-Afrika mag staan nie, en (b) <strong>in</strong>strument moet wees vir n groter<br />

herenig<strong>in</strong>gsproses van die familie van <strong>NG</strong> kerke en ander Suider-Afrikaanse gereformeerde kerke.<br />

3.3 GLOBALE EKUMENIESE LIGGAME<br />

3.3.1 Die Gereformeerde Ekumeniese Raad<br />

3.3.1.1 Inleid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Die <strong>NG</strong> <strong>Kerk</strong> is sedert 1950 lid van die GER as een van die grootste kerke van die liggaam asook n kerk<br />

wat deur die jare n leidende rol gespeel het. Verskeie lede van die <strong>NG</strong> <strong>Kerk</strong> was al voorsitter van die GER<br />

en het op die UK gedien. Tans dien dr Kobus Gerber as adviseur op die UK.<br />

3.3.1.2 Algemene Vergader<strong>in</strong>g 2005<br />

Die jongste Algemene Vergader<strong>in</strong>g van die GER het <strong>in</strong> Julie 2005 <strong>in</strong> Utrecht, Nederland, plaasgev<strong>in</strong>d. n<br />

Aantal baie belangrike sake is tydens die byeenkoms aangeraak waarvan drie spesifiek na die onderkeie<br />

kerke verwys is vir aandag: Heidelbergse Kategismus Vraag en Antwoord 80, die Christelike getuienis te<br />

midde van godsdienstige pluralisme, asook koersaanduid<strong>in</strong>g vir n teologie van hoop <strong>in</strong> n tyd van MIV/Vigs.<br />

Die laasgenoemde twee sake sake is na die ADD verwys vir aandag en hulle sal daaraan aandag gee.<br />

3.3.1.3 Heidelbergse Kategismus Vr en Antw 80<br />

*1 Die moontlike herformuler<strong>in</strong>g van HK Art 80 is <strong>in</strong> 1984 op die tafel geplaas deur die Christian Reformed<br />

Church <strong>in</strong> North America en is gedoen vanuit n lang geskiedenis van worstel<strong>in</strong>g met die betrokke<br />

formuler<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> gereformeerde kr<strong>in</strong>ge. Die dokument wat die CRCNA aan alle lidkerke van die GER gestuur<br />

het, is deur die Moderamen na proff Conrad Wethmar en Sybrand Strauss vir studie en kommentaar<br />

verwys. Op grond van hulle aanbevel<strong>in</strong>g het die Moderamen soos volg aan die CRCNA geskryf:<br />

1. The DRC conveys its appreciation to the CRCNA for the work done on the relationship between the<br />

Reformed <strong>in</strong>terpretation of the Lord s supper and that of the Roman Catholic Eucharist.<br />

2. The DRC would like to express its prelim<strong>in</strong>ary agreement with recommendation D2 an D3 on page 34 of<br />

the booklet that had been sent to us:<br />
