This communion embodies the Reformed identity articulated in the historic Reformed confessions and
continued in the life and witness of the Reformed community.
Membership and Affiliation
All current member churches of REC and WARC shall be members of the WRC. We invite other churches
of the Reformed, Presbyterian, Congregational, Waldensian, other First Reformation, United and Uniting
traditions, who affirm the basis of the WRC, to join our fellowship. We also look forward to welcoming
movements, agencies and theological institutions of the Reformed movement into active affiliation with the
WRC.
Callings:
To foster Reformed confessional identity and communion among Reformed churches for the sake of the
whole Church.
To promote justice in the economy and the earth, and to work for reconciliation in the world.
To encourage the renewal of Reformed worship and spiritual life as a global family of God s people.
To aid leadership development and the nurture of the covenant community.
To promote the full participation of women and youth in all aspects of the Church s life.
To renew a passion among Reformed Christians for God s mission, both witness and service, in a spirit of
partnership and unity.
To interpret Reformed theology for contemporary witness and for the unity of the Church.
3. VOORGESTELDE WORLD REFORMED COMMUNION : PRAKTIESE ASPEKTE
VIR DIE PROSES
1. Time Line
1.1 Proposal to be sent to Governing bodies, Churches, and others in the constituency in February 2006
(with one year within which to respond).
1.2 Receive Responses from member churches by February 2007.
1.3 The joint committee processes responses received and advises both Governing bodies on how to
proceed.
1.4 REC s expanded Executive Committee and WARC s Executive Committees consider the proposal and
responses in their meetings in July and October 2007. The decisions could include authorising the joint
committee to draft a new constitution.
1.5 The two governing body meetings also give an indication of a launching time for WRC as well as the
formal constituting of the new body taking into account Assembly/Council schedules. Between the
launching time and the formal constitution the new body can be made operational at various levels.
1.6 Under the direction of both Executive Committees, the joint Committee works on harmonising
comments and modifications proposed by the Executive Committees.
2. Meetings
We envisage four kinds of meetings:
2.1 Major global meetings to be called Councils. These can be held concurrently with other ecumenical
bodies. If they are held concurrently with other World Communions and/or ecumenical bodies, care will be
taken to ensure that delegates can participate in a variety of options, either jointly or separately. The
Council meetings will be for the purpose of:
-Fellowship;
-Mutual learning;
-Networking;
-Exploring implications of our core callings for our times;
-Fulfilling constitutional obligations (governing body elections, etc.).
2.2 Governing body meetings. These meetings are for the governing bodies to be set up.
2.3 Regional meetings. The regions with structures will meet within such structures. Others will find other
means of relating.
2.4 Consultations (global or regional) that will focus on one or more of the seven callings of the WRC.
These will be programmatic expressions or networking around the various themes that the WRC takes on
board.
3. Governing bodies
We envisage two main governing bodies:
3.1 A body representative of churches in different regions of the world and different prior streams of the
Reformed family charged with policy development and oversight vis-à-vis implementation of the callings
and broad mandates from the Councils.
