(=paññ!ya paricchinditv! caranto living in full knowledge, i. e. rightly determining); also (abstr.)<br />

pariññattha' at It 29 (abhiññattha'+), cp. S iv.253.<br />

In exegetical literature three pariññ!s are distinguished, viz. ñ!ta˚, t"ra*a˚ pah!na˚, which are differently<br />

interpreted & applied according to the various contexts. See e. g. the detailed interpretation at Nd1 52 sq.;<br />

Nd2 413; J vi.259 (where ñ!*a˚ for ñ!ta˚); DhA ii.172 (in ref. to food); mentioned at SnA 517. -- adj.<br />

pariñña. -- <strong>The</strong> form pariññ!ya is an apparent instr., but in reality (in form & meaning) the ger. of parij!n!ti<br />

(like abhiññ!ya>abhij!nitv!) for the usual parij!nitv!. It is freq. found in poetry & in formulas (like<br />

yath!bh(ta' p.); its meaning is "knowing well in right knowledge": S v.182; Sn 455, 737, 778 (=parij!nitv!<br />

Nd1 51 sq.), 1082 (corresp. with pah!ya, cp. similar phrase pah!ya parij!nitv! DhA iv.232); It 62; J vi.259.<br />

Pariññ!<br />

Pariññ!2 (indecl.) [ger. of parij!n!ti for *parijñ!ya, cp. same short forms of !d! & abhiññ!] having full<br />

knowledge or understanding of Sn 779 (=parij!nitv! Nd1 56 & SnA 518); It 4 (perhaps to be read<br />

pariññ!ya for pariññ! so).<br />

Pariññ!ta<br />

Pariññ!ta [pp. of parij!n!ti] well understood, thoroughly known Th 2, 106; M i.1 sq.; S ii.99; v.182; PvA 1,<br />

287. With ref. to food (˚bhojana & ˚!h!ra) it means food understood according to the three pariññ!s (q. v.);<br />

Dh 92 (˚bhojano adj. one who lives on recognised food or takes the right view of the food he eats, cp. DhA<br />

ii.172); Miln 352 (˚!h!ro); contrasted with bh!vita: consciousness is to be well studied, insight is to be<br />

made to grow M i.293.<br />
