Ph!libhaddaka is spurious spelling for p!li˚ at J ii.162 (v. l. p!tali -- bhaddaka). Cp. Prk. ph!lihadda
(=p!ribhadra Pischel, Gr. § 208).

Ph!su
Ph!su (adj.) [etym.? Trenckner, Notes 82 (on Miln 1417: corr. J.P.T.S. 1908, 136 which refers it to Miln
1315) suggests connection with Vedic pr!$u enjoying, one who enjoys, i.e. a guest, but this etym. is
doubtful; cp. ph!suka. A key to its etym. may be found in the fact that it never occurs by itself in form
ph!su, but either in composition or as ˚ka] pleasant, comfortable; only neg. a˚ in phrase aph!su -- karoti to
cause discomfort to (dat.) Vin iv.290; and in cpds. ˚k!ma anxious for comfort, desirous of (others) welfare

Ph!su
Ph!su at Miln 146 (cp. p. 425) "bhagg! ph!s(" is un certain reading, it is not ph!suka; it may represent a
p!sa snare, sling. The likeness with ph!suk! bhagg! (lit.) of J i.493 is only accidental.
Ph!suka
Ph!suka (adj.) [fr. ph!su. Cp. Prk. ph!suya; acc. to Pischel, Prk. Gr. § 208 Jain Sk. pr!suka is a distortion of
P. ph!suka. Perhaps ph!su is abstracted from ph!suka] pleasant, convenient, comfortable J iii.343; iv.30;
DhA ii.92; PvA 42. -- aph!suka unpleasant, uncomfortable, not well J ii.275, 395; DhA i.28; ii.21. -- Note.
It seems probable that ph!suka represents a Sk. *spar$uka (cp. Pischel § 62), which would be a der. fr. sp%$
in same meaning as phassa2 ("lovely"). This would confirm the suggestion of ph!su being a secondary
formation.

Ph!suk! (f.) [cp. Sk *p!r$uk! & Ved. p!r$va, see passa2] a rib, only in pl. ph!suk! Vin i.74 (upa..ha˚
bhañjitabb!), in phrase sabb! te ph!suk! bhagg! J i.493 (lit.), which is fig. applied at Dh 154 (expld as
"sabb! avasesa -- kilesa -- ph!suk! bhagg!" at DhA iii.128), with which cp. bhagg! ph!s( at Miln 146; both
the latter phrases prob. of diff. origin. -- (adj.) ( -- ˚) in phrase mah!˚passa the flank (lit. the side of the great
ribs) J i.164, 179; iii.273; abs. mah!˚ with great ribs J v.42; uggata˚ with prominent ribs PvA 68 (for
