Pha*a [cp. Epic Sk. pha*a] the hood of a snake Vin i.91 (˚hatthaka, with hands like a snake's hood); J<br />

iii.347 (pattha&a˚); DhA iii.231 (˚' ukkhipitv!); iv.133. Freq. as pha*a' katv! (only thus, in ger.) raising or<br />

spreading its hood, with spread hood J ii.274; vi.6; Vism 399; DhA ii.257.<br />

Pha*aka [fr. pha*a] an instrument shaped like a snake's hood, used to smooth the hair Vin ii.107.<br />

Pha*ijjaka<br />

Pha*ijjaka [etym.?] a kind of plant, which is enumd at Vin iv.35=DA i.81 as one of the aggab"ja, i. e. plants<br />

propagated by slips or cuttings, together with ajjuka & hirivera. At J vi.536 the C. gives bh(tanaka as<br />

expln. According to Childers it is the plant Sam"ra*a.<br />
